COOKING LIKE CRAZY

On March 8th 2014, 5000 women attended the 7th Annual Women’s Rural Kabaddi Tournament to celebrate and embrace women’s empowerment and gender equality. With so many people present, there were also a lot of hungry guests to feed! The catering businesses established by 7 of Satyagyan Foundation’s self-help groups prepared meals for the large audience. The groups have between 10-20 members and cooked a meal of puri subji, pickles and ladu. Each woman earned Rs.1500 from the order.

For many of the women, this was their first time catering a large scale event. Most of the women in the self help savings groups work jobs as a housewives, cooks, vegetable/fruit shop vendors or at small general stores and have never been exposed to an enterprise that generates a higher income. The catering business offers them a chance to get involved in a task with good pay, and work in a team environment.
